Titan-Diborid DiB2

TITANIUM - DIBORIDE (TiB2)
FOR THE HIGHEST REQUIREMENTS IN AVIATION AND SPACE

Hard coatings based on titanium diboride (TiB2) are particularly suitable for machining aluminum or titanium alloys in the aerospace industry

TiB2 coatings  reduce the buildup on cutting edges

A few nanometers (50 to 150 nm) thick TiB2 coatings protect the surface of the contact layer and offer excellent protection against abrasive and contact-related wear.

PROPERTIES

  • High resistance to oxidation up to a temperature of 980 ° C

  • Chemically inert only to HF and HCl

  • 1-2 µm layer thickness sufficient (HiPIMS)

  • Excellent ceramic properties

  • Maximum operating temperature up to 1000 ° C

ADVANTAGES

  • High melting point

  • Suitable for high temperature applications

  • High hardness

  • Very high strength-to-density ratio

  • High wear resistance

  • No adhesion to aluminum materials

  • High sliding properties when machining aluminum

  • perfect adhesion and density thanks to HiPIMS

applications

  • excellent for machining aluminum and titanium alloys

  • Aerospace tools

  • Base material for components that require good thermal stability

  • Ceramic cutting tools

  • Sandblasting nozzles

  • Machining of composite materials

  • Cutting tools

  • Electrical appliances

  • Wear parts

DELIVERY FORM

  • Planar and circular sputtering targets

  • Arc cathodes

  • Pipe segments

Longest service life and low wear due to reduced adhesion of materials

With titanium diboride, sophisticated coatings are possible that:

  • are ideally suited for lubricant-free rolling bearings

  • Optimize machine parts in terms of their performance and service life

  • minimize the wear and tear of machine parts due to the reduced adhesion

Standard applications are a thing of the past,
unique and outstanding coating results are now in demand.

Tailor-made alloys for specific and demanding applications and

of course also standard sizes in the form of individual offers.

INNOVATIVE COATINGS
TO MEET THE HIGH MARKET AND CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS

Intensive analyzes of suitable preliminary products for the production of TiB2 have resulted in:

  • Optimization of the layer properties with  TiB2 cathodes in  HiPIMS process

  • It was possible to achieve separation rates of up to 90% of the DCMS rate

  • This significantly improved the fracture toughness and hardness
