The AlTiN-based layers remain wear-resistant even at high temperatures. This increases the service life of the tools, and fewer tool changes are required. The thermal stability and wear resistance of the AlTiN layer are particularly beneficial when machining HSS. Indexable inserts, milling and drilling applications are often coated with AlTiN.
